SEO 3.0 | All hands on deck (flex) (y) (n) (handshake)

Calling all SEOs I have a project that requires your expertise and I could really do with a hand with it. It involves creating a semantic data repository out of Kazaa data and also leveraging that within the site for our users and for our own ends. Additionally, this would enable us to offer something unique to the linked data operation. Obviously here the most important thing is that Google is on board, trying to establish itself with music search and currently only MusicBrainz offer RDF data. The new Google music model involves using partners Rhapsody, Lala, MySpace (iLike), Pandora, imeem and GraceNote for lyric search. We do not currently feature in this set so we’d like to be considered. In order to make ourselves very useful, we think that making use of exactly the kind of data formats they’re after will help our case as it were. Other than that, it’s a good opportunity for us as a team to get on-board the semantic web and start creating data and functionality that users are coming to expect more and more. There is room for us to do some interesting things because there’s not been tons done in this area.

I’m assuming you know all about the semantic web which may or may not be right, so in case you need more info about it. I’ve listed resources below.

There’s a few links to good resources and some interesting related projects. The idea is to markup all of the Kazaa data about brands and artists and their related information. MusicBrainz has most of the basic stuff already in RDF format. The Isophonic database has Mel Frequency Cepstral Coefficients (MFCC) features and MusicBrainz IDs. It also has annotations and tags about songs for example. If you look at the diagram ( http://www4.wiwiss.fu-berlin.de/bizer/pub/lod-datasets_2009-02-27.png) showing all of the different data stores and who feeds from who, you’ll notice that in our area (music), there’s not a great deal happening. This is good news for us. In addition to the basic data I think it would make sense for us to add information such as mood, tempo, venues the artist/band has played at, popularity etc…All of this data needs to be organised and stored somewhere good, and it also needs to be an efficient solution. We need to be able to grow this repository easily and we also need to integrate other data into our own (RDF and the like). The user data will also be marked up but in the same way as social networks are so FOAF, XFN, SIOC for example. Glue is an interesting little product that I thought we should investigate, maybe we could integrate this. It would be a nice idea to use some machine learning as well in time to understand how the data is being used and thus where are most important assets are.
