I’ve had enough! I cannot take it anymore! Most of television is rubbish as far as I’m concerned, but MTV honestly has gone so far downhill it’s rolled to the other side of the valley. Are you seriously airing shows such as “Teen Mom” and “Jersey Shore”?? What the hell are they doing?
I can understand if they wanted to air a show that depicts the hardships that teenage mothers must endure through pregnancy and raising a baby/child. However, you put a show that has pregnant teenagers or those who just became mothers on a channel such as MTV, whose audience is primarily tweens, it is only going to appear as condoning. The last thing I would want my young daughter to think is that since the cast members on an MTV show did it, she can too. This might sound overactive, however, American youth is brainwashed and extremely influenced by the horrendous television they are glued to. I can only hope that either they start putting worthwhile programs on that channel, or (God-forbid) parents start realizing what their children are watching and put their foot down.
On to the next beauty: Jersey Shore. I’m not even sure I have words that describe my disgust for a program such as this. What better way to really demonstrate genuine, intelligent, young Americans than to display some of the worst traits of them all on national television. Not only national television, but one of the most watched (unbelievably) networks for all Generation Y audiences. Young adults who are more obsessed and concerned with materialism and their own outer image than anything else in their lives hardly constitute as role models in my book. For the older crowd (20s+) who love to watch the show, have you not something more valuable to do with your time?
I refuse to watch any show on MTV, and hearing people talk about the characters on these programs with admiration enrages me. How about you read a novel. How about you research some literature on ancient philosophy or the sciences done by the genius minds of our time. Where are the people in my generation who care about higher learning and being? All I know is that if programs that glorify ignorance and poor lifestyle choices, the younger generations are going to be even worse.
If you care to stop the trend, share the knowledge. I would adore for MTV to use their amazing access to the youth for a good cause. Enhance interest in sciences, mathematics, higher learning. The chances? Right.
