I love Australia Day. Not for the chance to cover myself with the flag and get as drunk as possible but to have a BBQ and be with family and friends in a peaceful location.
This year we went to Carrington Falls near Bowral (The Birthplace of Aussie icon Don Bradman). We had Triple J’s Hottest 100 countdown playing in the background and were surrounded by bush, waterfalls and swimming holes.
For lunch we had steak, chops and some great salads. I washed it down with a nice ale or two (not V.B.). The local town new that city folk were coming and had raised all the prices 100%, but that is the price you pay for convenience in a serene environment.
There was plenty of laughter and mateship, and even though I was apprehensive about the bogan potential of our young neighbours camping next to us all was well. This was Australia Day ….no worries.
